1993 Daihatsu Rugger Turbo Diesel JDM
« on: December 07, 2018, 08:26:28 PM »
The Rugger is the Japan-only model name for what the U.K. would call the Fourtrak, what the rest of Europe might call the Rocky, and what is called different things in different places. I myself live in Florida here in the USA, and run a JDM import dealership. I've already had a 1985 Rugger F75 a year ago:

I now have a 1993 Rugger F78. This one is quite special as I am the second owner. It's full chassis code is F78G-000041. It has 20,000 kms on the clock (13,000 miles total). Completely clean, stock and unmodified. It's a mid-trim level SE version, so while I get air conditioning I do not get power windows or locks. Just as well as reaching over to lock the passenger door isn't a big deal at all. Being a Rugger it has a 2.8 liter turbo diesel engine under the hood, being a F78 it has IFS up front and is coil sprung in the back vs. the 85 which had front and rear solid axles and leaf springs all around. These pictures are from when it came fresh off the boat and hasn't been cleaned or detailed at all.

I believe this is the only F78 in the United States as this one is number 41, was built in August which means it has only recently become legal to import under the USA's 25 year import rule.

Thanks all.

A part of doing the JDM dealership thing is it is *all* I drive. This 93 Rugger is now my daily driver. It did need new tires though, and while the wheels were off I wanted to check the brakes as the rear right drum seemed to want to drag.

Much better. BF Goodrich KO2s are a favorite of mine because of the white lettering. They are good tires too but it's really more about the style. 235/75/15s in keeping with the stock-ish size. The yellow truck is a 1991 Mazda Bongo, formally operating as a construction vehicle in Kyoto, Japan. Now it does duty as my utility vehicle when I need a pickup.

I like the Goodrich brand.  They were OEM on my F-150, and at 120,000 miles, I only replaced them when I decided to take a two week long vacation.
