Distributor cap + Wheel arches
« on: April 09, 2012, 09:21:55 PM »
Hello everyone, I\'m a new member here at WARFS although not a new Sportrak owner. I have a \'96 Sportrak with 50k on the clock and it has a flat spot in its acceleration. I have fitted a K+N filter and a decat pipe which has helped but not cured the problem. The vehicle is well serviced but I do need to get a new dizzy cap for it. I have sourced several but they have all been the wrong ones. From what I can gather they changed as of the 1/1/96, does anyone know where I can get the later type cap from? Even my local dealer supplied the wrong one. Does anyone have any other idea\'s for the cause of the flat spot?

Secondly I have seen pictures of Rockys and Feroza\'s with extra wide arches on them, I will be fitting 31 10 50 15\'s and a lift kit over the summer and a set of these arches would look great and cover my new tyres, does anyone know where I could get a set?

Welcome 96Sporty,
The wheel arches: your best bet is a wreckers or dismantlers in Australia, there where 1,000\'s of these little beasts sold down under, but the shipping is a killer. You could also try Germany or France as they are a lot closer to you as well.

Do you have any pictures of the distributor cap??
What is the difference from 1990/1993 to 1993/1997??
To many to list here as the limit is only 300 characters

I have a few sets but once again shipping is a pain...there is a lot of dead space in a box that the postal guys charge for and you get nothing but fresh Washington air.

Thanks for the info guys, what are we talking roughly for a shipped set of arches to the UK? I know I could add extensions to the UK type ones I have but I do like the look of the wider ones, heart ruling head im afraid!

Attached is a pic of my dizzy cap, it is similar in style to the new ones I have bought but it is all together larger, approx. 10mm digger in diameter.

Do you know if the earlier type dizzy will fit the later engine? From what I can gather I would need a vacuum adv/retard pipe added but that isnt to much of a problem, I wonder if the ECU will handle it though!

Great forum by the way, a real credit to you all, I had no idea there was so much enthusiasm for the little daihatsu!

Hi 96Sporty and welcome. If you have the narrow wheel arches then I\'d assume you have a F300 Sportrack (aka Feroza/Rocky) which is the narrow track. The wider arches you refer to are off a F310 Sportrack II (aka Feroza II/Rocky II) also referred to as a wide track. The F310 has a wider chassis which creates the wider track (therefore referred to as the \"wide track\"). The wider arches would be available in the UK and I\'ve been told that they will bolt straight on to the F300 aka Sportrak aka Feroza aka Rocky aka narrow track. I\'ve searched the UK before for parts and there seems to be quite a good network for second had spares. Hop on to Google and do some searches, I\'m sure you\'ll find a lot of parts available. As for your dizzy issue, I believe that the US Rockys have a different style of dizzy to the Aus version but that\'s just something I read on the net and can\'t confirm either way. There is a good distributor (as in retail outlet) in the UK called Milner, send them an email with your request, they maybe able to steer you in the right direction. . They have a good range of replacement parts and after market accessories for Sportraks . they also ship world wide. Of course there are other UK outlets but this seems to be the most popular and have the best range. Another avenue for local knowledge might be Another option could be to contact Leon the USA\'s legendary Daihatsu man and give him your VIN, he may be able to give you more info based on that. I have his contact details somewhere but not sure where atm. I think lioncubb keeps them in the top draw of his desk or chiselled on his forehead or somethin\' and could probably give them to you. lioncubb?
