Having made excuses on lack of supercharger progress because of the winch, thought I would include a Daihatsu Feroza / Daihatsu Rocky / Daihatsu Sportrak winch progress photo.

It's a 9500LB unit ( yes its big  -  but the price was right ), and just squeezes in behind the front bar.

The grey bits are the winch cradle Built from scratch which is effectively two 6mm end plates ( matching the bar profile ) that pick up strengthened bar mounts - joined by 25x50mm thick wall RHS sections which actually cary the winch. RHS strengthed by solid bushes where the winch mounting bolts are fitted and 45 Deg. braces at the ends.  All bolts are now Grade 8 as the ones fitted were about Grade 0 much to my surprise.

The control box won't fit under the bumper as on larger vehicles, so extension cables fitted with the solenoids in the engine bay. This also makes it immune to vandals ( well.. I hope ).  The clutch handle as shown has been replaced with a hex drive shaft, allowing the standard wheel brace to reach through a hole in the bar to engage / disengage the winch clutch.  Standard alternator is a worry but a battery upgrade is a definite, with an alternator close behind.

Hi there ..how do you find the extra weight on the steer..i have just fitted extra heavy duty suspension all round to my 95 feroza would that be ok to handle the extra 100lb of the winch ?

Have just fitted a winch to front of my vehicle, mounted winch on 100x40 sq tube and welded plates to both mount and chassis with gussets for side loading, cut stock bumper to clear where required. removed stock air cleaner system and fitted second battery for winch with a starter solenoid to connect with vehicle battery when using the winch for longer pulls.

Have a scheme in mind - am currently working on a rear bumper replacement to carry the spare / jerry can / jack as the 31 inch spare tyre is going to rip the rear door off.
Have a smaller ( 1600KG ) unit that might just squeeze in - and I agree fully, I always carry a hand winch just in case backwards is the way to go.... So far the front winch is to get others unstuck.

Good job with the winch , but being a 94 feroza widetrack owner ,whos suspension is all standard except for mags and bfg tyres , whats your thoughts on a rear mounted winch ?....Why get into more shit ahead!

Please note this is fitted behind an aftermarket aluminium
bull bar - not a stock bumper.

The brackets and spacers that carry the bar and winch are quite a complex shape to match the contours of the chassis rails, as I have not looked at a stock bumper bar I am uncertain how many of the bolts are used normally.

There are 12 x 10mm high tensile bolts used, 6 into the chassis sides, 4 into the chassis top and 2 into the front. All but two of these are already in the chassis.

The winch cradle attaches to these adapters via 6 x 10mm ht bolts. When I look at the winch manufacturers recomended mounting - there seems to be more than enough strength and the winch cradle is also structural.

Its now complete and has been used a couple of times the weakness currently is the stock altenator / battery.

I really don't have any idea of how we can attach a winch to our chassis correctly, but I found that your application is one of the unusual position I ever saw.
